Kim Leon, resident of Two Harbors, requested at the Two Harbors city council meeting October 14 that a resolution be adopted that would put environmental stewardship as a top priority for all waterfront development. “This is in the spirit of Indigenous Peoples Day for this great lake known as gichigami,” said Leon. Going on to emphasize the need to use best practices in waterfront development, Leon said, “The waterfront should be thought of as a living being to be protected.” Mayor Lew Conner made comments recognizing Indigenous Peoples Day as a day in the city of Two Harbors to acknowledge and honor Indigenous members of our community.
