Edward (Ed), age 66 of Beaver Bay, MN went to his Heavenly Father on March 2nd, 2022, after a long battle with heart disease.

Ed was preceded in death by his father Kermit Mattson, mother Solvay Ronning, sisters Kathy Collins and Sharon Nopola, son Jason Mattson, and grandson Liam Bjerketvedt.

Ed was blessed with a large close-knit family who cherished him deeply. He took pride in his children, and grandchildren. He had a compassionate heart and found joy in serving others and teaching them about Jesus.

Ed was a man of many skills. He enjoyed ministry, logging, commercial fishing, carpentry, remodeling homes, and small engine repairs. Ed loved spending time fishing, hunting, camping, snowmobiling, gardening, tinkering in his shop, flea marketing, and auctioning with his sisters and son. He loved his family heritage and took pride in carrying on the Mattson legacy.

Ed is survived by his sisters Sonja Appling, Kirstin (Pat) Murray, Margy Porter, and brother Marty (Diane) Mattson. His children, Lisa (James) Picconatto, Rebecca (Ryan) Flynn, Hannah (Aaron) Windsor, Israel Mattson, Anna (Luke) Bjerketvedt, and Krissa (Paul) Aubol. He was a loving Grandpa “Gramps” to 16 grandchildren.

In honor of Ed, a funeral service will be held at the Duluth Vineyard Church, 1533 W Arrowhead Rd., Duluth, MN 55811 on Saturday, March, 26, 2022 with a social hour at 11:00 a.m. and the service at 12:00 p.m. A luncheon will follow.
