It was 41 below in Brimson last week and that was a highlight for the thousands of Lake County residents on the celebratory march for the first editions of the Camp Shack News-Gazette-Chronicle-Post-Press-Weekly Standard. The newspaper-mad throng had gotten through the night in the balmy neighborhoods of Duluth, urging residents to take up the flag and start newspapers in all corners of the city.

It took over thirty years, but the US Forest Service has finally reduced the daily entry quotas of Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness permits by a modest thirteen percent. And Covid-19 was probably the final, triggering factor.
The North Shore Nordic Ski team participated in another frigid ski meet at the Snowflake Nordic Ski Center in Duluth on Friday Jan. 28. The temperature hovered around 10 degrees F the entire meet with a breeze, making for a lot of skiers working hard to stay warm before and after their races. This was a relatively large meet with schools from Duluth East, Ely, Cloquet- Carleston-Esko, Mora, Proctor/Hermantown, Grand Rapids, North Star Academy, Marshall, and Mesabi East.
North Shore high school girls’ hockey captain Livia Hoff, one of the top players in northeastern Minnesota and a varsity regular since the eighth grade, has verbally committed to attend Concordia College in Moorhead in the fall.

During the week of January 24-28th many students from the Minnehaha joined our Agate Cheerleading team for a fun filled week of stunts, sidelines and cheers. Our Agate cheerleaders shared their knowledge, skill and a love of cheerleading with their little counterparts.
