Runoff Report

Editor’s note: Yes, the Great March for Community Newspapers still awaits the parachute jump signal from the very reluctant editor and Tony Xzcerlippy of Tony’s Underwater Limousine Service (Lake County Press--editions 2-5). And yes, in recalling an earlier skydiving incident in which the reluctant editor was stuck flying an old plane that he didn’t know how to fly, it gave him pause to think of a story in which God Takes a Vacation from humanity and its lack of humanity for each other (Lake County Press—editions 6-8).

Agates Represent at Indoor Track Meet

Saturday’s Track meet, again at the University of Wisconsin-Superior indoor track, belied the weather outside. The Mariners did not participate but the Agates were there in full force, with several high placements. Tate Nelson won the boys 60 meter dash with 7:43, with Matson Granmo taking 3rd. The Girls 4 x 400m relay took 2 place with runners Grace Swanson, Jenna Marxhausen, Mya Poe-Jonson and Trinity Giddings. The Girls 1600 meter run made a good showing, with Senior Autumn Smith winning with 6:01:39, Lamar Gordon in 2 and Jocelyn Carr in 4 . In perhaps the most exciting race of the day for Two Harbors, Ian Thorpe ran a healthy six laps of the 1600, but in the 7 lap turned it up a notch and passed a Greenway runner who was in 2 , and then on the final curve came up behind the runner in first (Esko) who looked behind him on the left, a move that put him at a disadvantage—but Thorpe was already passing on the right, and won in 4:51:05.
