Storm Report
Here's my 'Not on Facebook' post. The snow was so heavy and we were getting tired of shoveling so I decided to lighten things up a bit.

Saturday Dec 17. Two Harbors 75 Howard Lake- Waverly-Winsted 36 The Agates withstood cold shooting in the 1st half while playing some tough defense in taking a 25-17 lead into the break. The 2nd half proved to be a different story as the basket opened up in route to a 50 point 2nd half. Trent Gomez had his 2nd consecutive 31 point game while Cameron Nelson added a double-double with 10 points & 13 rebounds. The guys really wore them down in the 2nd half and again, each game someone new ups their game. Kyler had a couple huge 3’s early on while their focus was on stopping Trent. Ryan Seguin kinda sparked us and I thought the Bark boys brought us some needed energy as well.

Thursday Dec 8th: Two Harbors 97 Duluth Marshall 37 The Agates used a balanced scoring attack with 4 players in double figures and 14 different players scoring overall to overwhelm the Hilltoppers in Duluth. Isaiah Hietala led all scorers with 23 points, Trent Gomez added 16 while Kyler Pitkanen & Ethan Bopp both chipped in 15. Overall, the Agates were 12-27 from 3 point range while handing out 28 assists to only 7 turnovers. Trent & Isaiah are doing a really good job of taking care of the ball while creating opportunities for others. It’s great to see on any given night, someone different might lead us in scoring.

The Two Harbors Kids Curling program started this year on November 13th and lasted until December 11th. During the program, we were a mixture of new and experienced young curlers learning how to score a game, different kinds of shots, and how to sweep for our teammates. We also learned the curling ABC’s: A – Align, B – Balance, and C – Curl, which are the steps to setting up and shooting the rock. We had the pleasure of learning from experienced curlers, with the teaching being led by Kay Libby, Colleen Holbeck, Claire Claflin, Melissa Grover, and Peter Harris. To start off each session, we were led in a warm up and stretch. Then, we were given an overview of the topics for the day, and we all headed to the ice. After an hour of putting the skills we learned into practice with games and some friendly competition, we found our way back inside to have a snack and review what we learned so far. After that, it’s back on the ice! We continued to practice and have games against each other for the last hour of the lesson. All in all, this was an extremely successful season of kids’ curl. We improved our skills and knowledge of the game immensely and had tons of fun while doing it!
The North Shore Storm Nordic Ski Team spent two nights and three days skiing in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan near Ironwood, Michigan last week. Beginner, intermediate, and advanced skiers were all out for hours every morning and afternoon, and evenings were spent together in the lodge. As north shore skiers normally are not on trails until mid-December at the earliest, this gave the skiers a 'leg up' from their usual fitness and skill level for the beginning of the season. They report that it was 'really fun,' and a great use of the annual wreath-selling fundraiser that they completed in November.
