How do Storm skiers stay safe with -20 wind chills?

February 2nd’s temperatures and wind chill had many wondering if the ski meet in Duluth would be canceled, but with the Sections Meet pending, it went forward as scheduled. Skiers, as always, cheerfully maintained their core temperatures by resting in heated areas when possible (buses and tents), moving constantly when outside, keeping layers on until the last second, using hand and foot warmers, and putting tape on their cheeks and noses. Without this there surely would have been some serious frostbite as the temperatures dropped and the wind picked up throughout the afternoon under a crystal clear blue sky. Coaches earned their keep on this day, keeping close tabs on skiers before and after races, cheering, taping, covering, reminding them to drink and eat, and being out in the cold themselves for the larger part of the day.

Cheer Lego Robotics team at State 3…2…1…LEGO!!!

The Two Harbors High School Robo Dweebs #5501 are heading to the Boston Scientific State Championship in St. Paul On Sunday, February 12th. The team has been working extra hard since their Regional competition in December. As a team they have logged almost 60 hours of practice time, conducted four different experiments for their Innovation Project, added four new robot missions of coding and building to their Robot Game and Design presentation, and created fun, learning spaces of outreach as part of their Core Values. Team members say that they are excited about going to state, with one Robo Dweeb saying, “State is important to me and the team because we have worked so hard to get to this level and we think our dedication is worthy of the sate competition.” The Robo Dweebs have gone international by working with the teams: The Flock from Quebec, Canada and F no Shiro from Japan. Sharing our projects, presentations, and robot with teams from other countries has broadened our perspectives and has shown us how hard the English language can be to express ourselves without using local vernacular or sayings. The team also hosted a scrimmage with a Duluth team that is also heading to State!
