The Two Harbors Track and Field team continued to make a name for themselves at the Matt Kero Invitational Meet at Denfeld on Friday, May 12, winning a number of events and breaking three school records: The Girls 4x200 Relay team of Delaney Nelson, Karly Holm, Jenna Marxhausen, and Trinity Giddings, with a time of 1:47.02. The 4 x 400 Girls Relay team of Jenna Marxhausen, Lamar Gordon, Grace Swanson, and Trinity Giddings, with a time of 4:06.48. The old record 4:10.4 is from 1990. And finally, Trinity Giddings broke the school record in the girls 400m dash with a time of 58.32, breaking Rita Maki’s record of 58.4 from 1993.
On Friday, May 12 the WKHS Mariner Track team traveled to Denfeld to compete in the Annual Matt Kero Invitational. The meet featured teams from across the northland, as well as a very strong Hastings team from the south. The weather was overcast, cool and dryperfect race conditions for the longer races, but challenging for field events and shorter sprints. Junior Tonja Thomas placed 2nd in the 100m as well as an 8th place finish in the 200m. Sophomore Sophia Blanck set the meet record in the 800m with a time of 2:19.09, beating out THHS Grace Swanson for the win. 8th grader Sierra Geatz ran a personal best in the 1600m, coming in at 5:41.70 which was fast enough for 5th place overall. Freshman Valerie Melander ran a season best 1:06.87 400m. Val, along with Sophia, Sierra, and Stella LaPointe placed 9th in the 4x400m relay.
Silver Bay and host Two Harbors faced off in softball action last week and the Mariners powered their way to a 15-4 win over the Agates. The Mariners used three pitchers in the game. Offensively, the Mariners were led by Hope Ernest who went 3-5 with two doubles, Katie Carpenter who was 3-5 with 2 RBIs and a double and Danika Thompson who went 2-3 with 3 RBIs.
Lake County Press reports Two Harbors watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 5-1 loss to Silver Bay in baseball action on Tuesday, May 9. In the first inning, the Mariners got their offense started when Tucker Cook was struck by a pitch, driving in a run.
The Agate Girls Track and Field team won first place at the 67th annual Doc Savage Invitational on a cool windy day in Hibbing on Friday, May 5. The Agates didn’t always have a full score of competitors in each event, but in the events that they participated, they were highly competitive. The Agate girls took: 1st and 2nd in the 100 meter dash (Delaney Nelson and Trinity Giddings) 1st and 2nd in the 200 m dash (Delaney Nelson and Jenna Marxhausen) 1st and 8th in the 400 m dash (Grace Swanson and Ella Peterson) 3rd in the 100m and 300 m hurdles (Amaya Grinde) 6th in the 4 x 100 relay (Gwen Fagerland, Chloe Johnson, Ruby Shea, Natalie Tokvam) 1st in the 4 x 200 relay (Delaney Nelson, Karly Holm, Marxhausen, and Giddings) 1st in the 4 x 400 relay (Marxhausen, Lamar Gordon, Swanson, Giddings) 1st in the 4 x 800 relay (Jocelyn Carr, Holm, Gordon, Swanson)
