Thoughts from a Pastor’s Heart

With the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday, the church around the world enters into the season where we walk with the Lord Jesus Christ to His death on the cross. To Christians, Christ’s death and subsequent resurrection from the dead 3 days later form the core of our belief and our hope of eternal life. It is through His sufferings and substitutionary death that He fully paid the price for our sins and deliberate rebellion against God, the Father and His just commandments. The proof of this is His bodily resurrection from the dead.

Last week we discussed “spin,” and the potential to use facts to mislead, either intentionally or not. But what about fake news? Fake news is not simply “spinning” a story. Fake news is declaring something that is true that isn’t, or vice versa. In its first edition, Forrest Johnson, Editor of the Lake County Press, reminds us that there is still truth out there, and that it’s our intention to “find and report it.”
