To the Editor: Given the newsworthiness of city council and mayoral activity these days, the public (even non-resident public which considers itself strongly Two Harborsidentified) deserves some transparency around governmental proceedings. While Zoom coverage of meetings is a gesture in that direction, Councilor Rennwald learned at this week’s meeting, when tuned into Zoom from afar apparently, how dismal that medium can be.
I have known Two Harbors Mayor Chris Swanson for about 12 years. We do not socialize, but talk often about our shared interests of politics, love of country, community and family. Chris always talks about making the area a better place for the citizens, and his family to live. I have watched the personal attacks on Chris for the last few weeks and want to share my thoughts.
March 8 is International Women’s Day. Don’t ask me how I know this. I just do. So let us speak of Woman, specifically the International Woman. I like her. Very much. In my opinion She deserves much more than a day. But time waits for no man. Or woman, it seems. So… let’s get to it.

The National Union of Friendly Americans (NUFA) in an all-out effort to be friendly in these unfriendly times is offering daily meditation revivals in a snowy Knife River pasture as a way to connect with mindfulness and bliss without having to claim to be a Buddhist or Lutheran, Hindu or Catholic, Athiest or Non-conformist.
Recently I cautioned against believing everything we read that makes us angry, afraid, or righteous. What is the alternative? Get curious. Curiosity is only possible when you realize there is something you don’t know. Anger and fear generally snuff curiosity right out. Think of a small child peering into a flower while a bee buzzes inside. Fascinating! Thrilling!
Over the past few months, I have researched, spoken with, and interviewed numerous entrepreneurs from Lake County. All of them are passionate about solving a problem or building a better solution. The conversations lasted hours and didn’t feel like an interview.
This time of year, it might feel like winter is stretching on and on with no end in sight. Fortunately, creative projects are an excellent way to add some color, pizzazz, and joy to these snowy days and get you through to spring!
