The Reluctant Editor

I asked the question a few weeks ago if we’re teaching our children that it’s OK to lie, deceive, misinform or otherwise make stuff up to prove a point. I am still asking that question.

Katya’s Corner

Sometimes local dramas take on a life of their own, and the situation in Two Harbors has done just that. Two Harbors has a “city code” which is another word for local law. It states that city officials cannot have a “direct or indirect” interest in “any contract, transaction, or zoning decision” made by the city. Simple as this may seem at first glance, there are many questions that arise once you dive a little deeper. More than one city employee has ties to city-contracted business. Letters TO THE Editor

Letters to the editor, columns, and cartoons are the opinions of the contributors and not necessarily the Lake County Press. While we encourage readers to submit letters to the editor on issues they feel strongly about, we encourage writers to be respectful to one another. Your message is more likely to be heard if it is delivered in a civil manner. We also ask that letters include name, address, and phone number. Anonymous submissions or letters of questionable credibility will not be published or acknowledged. The Lake County Press also asks that letters be no longer than 350 words; however, at the editor’s discretion, longer submissions may be published occasionally. Beyond Reason

Man versus Golf You know how sometimes you go to visit your parents, but you don’t want to stay with them because, you know, they’re your parents? So, you decide to stay nearby, but not that nearby because, well, they’re your parents? But it’s also spring break for the kiddos so you dish out a little more scratch than usual and stay not just at a hotel but a resort with a full-on water park, with lots of pools and water slides galore? And you know how the first few days are good, clean family fun, swimming during the days, seeing the folks in the evening but then you learn that the resort offers something else and that something else is… golf? And you know how halfway through your stay, the PGA walks in like they own the joint? I hate it when that happens. One minute, parking is first come first serve, the next it’s: Are you with the Open? Oh, you’re not with the Open.
