Forrest Johnson After five years of trying I’ve finally said enough is enough with people willing to believe a charlatan who is turning the country into a banana republic. Trying to listen and at least understand a viewpoint so goofy is like repeating a mistake thatwill never end.Now I simply say“You’renuts.”You are nuts to believe in the 30,000 lies made up by a liar during his tenure in the White House (scorecard tabulated by the Washington Post).

Dear Editor, In recent days, a group people have been canvassing the city distributing literature in support of Mayor Chris Swanson. Of course, everyone has the right to either support or not support the Mayor, and every eligible voter will have the chance to express their opinion at the polls on Tuesday, August 9th, if they have not already done so.

Katya Gordon Last week I made just enough mention of the clipper ships to fire my adrenaline and pique my curiosity. So this week’s column is pure indulgence into the world of waves, wind, adventure, danger, shipwreck, heroism, andtragedy.Whenever I turn on our diesel engine on Lake Superior, there is a moment in which I whisper a silent, automatic, ….not a prayer exactly.

Ahh, for the pedestrian needs in a community. I’m not talking about walking trails here. I’m talking about a wastewater treatment plant. A wastewater treatment plant that is undergoing a major upgrade to the tune of $30 million.

How the heck is this thing going to go?

You know, life is good. My little flip phone says so. There’s a silly little logo with a smiley face on it and I might as well go along with that. Summer is here, though in Naknek, Alaska we’ve had one of those Bering Sea influenced seasons with little sun and ample wet and cold. It makes first time crew members look at the skies and ask, “Is it always like this here?”

Katya’s Corner

One spring about twenty years ago when my husband Mark and I were working on our first sailboat, Amicus, Mark attempted, without much thought, to hoist himself onto the dock from a sitting position below in our dinghy. The dinghy slid under the dock and Mark landed in the water. It was over his head–barely–and he managed to limit his swim to under two seconds by furiously pushing himself up and, fully clothed and suffused with adrenaline, wiggle his way up and onto the dock where he surreptitiously scanned the Knife River marina to see if this fiasco was observed or recorded by anyone. At the time it seemed only I had witnessed this, and my inability to contain my mirth did not endear me to Mark at that moment as, streaming with water, he slunk into the cabin to change. We estimated that the water at the time was in the high 30s.
