Flag Day honoring “Liberty and justice for all”

I really appreciated the Flag Day guest column by Julie Luchsinger on behalf of the Two Harbors Breakwall Indivisible group, in the June 6 edition of the Lake County Press. I found myself agreeing with each of her points about the pledge and about honoring the flag. “Liberty and justice for all” are ideals I can pledge to, not yet fully achieved and worth working towards.

Tariffs: Our path to revitalization, or oblivion?

After on-and-off tariffs with our closest neighbors the Trump Administration has now instituted new tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China, as well as about 180 other countries. The goal is to remediate “large and persistent” trade deficits and revitalize manufacturing and mineral extraction in the US, as expressed in an executive order on April 2. Tariffs vary and are still changing. The exact number varies as small tariffs have existed prior. In this article, we will focus on the tariffs with China.
