Cannabis and meeting highlights at Lake county board meeting
At the recent county board meeting August 12, the Lake county board engaged in a wide-ranging discussion about cannabis extraction and the complexities of regulating such operations within the county. The issue was recently brought to the attention of the board by owners of Finnegan’s Farm in Lake County with their interest in solventless cannabis extraction. Board members expressed uncertainty about the different license types, ordinance limits that might be appropriate and the potential impacts of the process. Concerns were also raised about the suitability of cannabis extraction facilities in residential area.

Surveys show ways to support families impacted by substance use
The Arrowhead region of Minnesota is disproportionately impacted by substance use disorders (SUDs). Wilderness Health data shows higher rates of adults with SUD and mental illness than the state average. For children, our region has higher rates of child protection involvement, as well as parental SUD and mental illness. Pregnant individuals impacted by SUD may face stigma and fear when seeking healthcare. These factors may prevent patients from attending prenatal appointments.
