The holiday season is right around the corner, and families and friends across the state will soon be gathering around the dinner table to share a special meal together. Joanne Slavin, Ph.D., RDN, a professor in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition in the University of Minnesota’s College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences, answers questions about how you can make the most of your holiday dining experience both at your own kitchen table and out in your community.
Just an average Vikings game & NHL Rules! Well, man oh man! Was that a Minnesota Vikings game this afternoon or what? The Vikes went out to Orchard Park, NY, to take on the Buffalo Bills, a team many consider to be the best in the AFC, and came away winners in a 33-30 OT classic of a game most media were immediately labeling as the Game of the Year. That is pretty lofty praise for what took place on the gridiron today, but I can't refute it.
Transformed George Homes, a British pastor and my homiletics instructor once said, “Nature forms us, education informs us, sin deforms us, and society tries to reform us- but only Christ can transform us.” The transforming power of Jesus Christ is evident in the lives of the billions who have been touched and changed by the Gospel. You know the classic question every child is asked at some point: What do you want to be when you grow up? First of all, who says we have to grow up? Jobs, however, are pretty handy to have. Although I absolutely love my job, I was never a little girl who wanted to be a teacher when she grew up. I wasn’t even a young adult who wanted to be a teacher. My career working with children happened quite by accident after a series of unplanned life events. I first began working with kids at age 26, and I loved it so much I went back to college to get my teaching degree. The rest is history, and I get to live every day in the most fun and rewarding way.

But the region’s mining industry remains cool to the potential by Marshall Helmberger reprinted courtesy of the Timerberjay, Ely BABBITT— In a makeshift basement laboratory here, Jeffrey Hanson is fine-tuning a process that could turn a cost-effective fix for one of the Iron Range’s biggest environmental problems into a job-producing enterprise. Hanson, a mechanical engineer by training, has been working for more than a decade on better ways to deal with waste and it’s led him to a way to effectively and affordably treat sulfate pollution from Iron Range mines.
