Northern Nights, Starry Skies premieres on PBS North

A documentary exploring the dark skies of northeastern Minnesota and the Anishinabe connection to those skies will make its broadcast premiere on Saturday, November 26 on PBS North. Co-produced by WDSE WRPT - PBS in Duluth and Hamline University’s Center for Global Environmental Education, the film spotlights the accomplished night photography of Grand Portager Travis Novitsky, and Carl Gawboy, Bois Forte, educator, artist and researcher of Ojibwe star stories.

Big Day for Margaret Nurmi

Reaching 100 years of age on November 8, 2022 was a big deal for Two Harbors resident Margaret Nurmi, but going to the voting polls in person was at the top of her birthday wish list. Family members, fire and police and city representatives held a birthday parade to let Margaret know how much her century on this planet is appreciated.

As Northern Long-eared bats and three other bat species face extinction, Feds move to protect them through the Endangered Species Act

In a move that worries loggers and mill owners, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (Service) is once again considering adding the northern long-eared-bat, little brown bat, tricolored bat, and Indiana bat to federal protection by placing them under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).
