This season of friend, family, and community gatherings is in full swing. I have many childhood memories of a warm home full of extended family with aromas of tasty home cooking. When I go down memory lane I am impressed to think of having twenty to thirty people in my parents home. Everything seems larger when you are a little kid. It was such a blessing having multiple generations under our roof and their stories which created more memories are priceless. Looking back I can see inclusion being at the heart of our family holidays. My family members communicated with our older generation about their needs for transportation, times they needed to be home by, or their hauling needs. We made sure the driveway and parking spots were shoveled and clean, offering to valet park cars, and offering a strong arm to lean on when walking into our home. There was always a cool bedroom or basement to escape to when the festivities became too overwhelming or you simply became overheated from all the baking and warm food. There was something for everyone: food, laughter, peace, presents, more food, games, conversations, football, desserts, and quiet love around it all.
