I'm pleased to introduce Jonee Vance and Mike Gareri who were out walking their dogs on the Two Harbors Ski Trail this autumn. They have recently moved to the area from Duluth and appeared to be having a good day on the trail. The Two Harbors Ski Trail Club was doing Trail maintenance getting the Ski Trail and the Bigfoot Snowshoe Trail ready for winter use.

Feeder Watchers Needed for Two Harbors Christmas Bird Count this Sunday

The Two Harbors Christmas Bird Count (CBC) will be held on Sunday, December 18, 2022, and feeder watchers are needed for this year’s efforts. The count is part of a continent-wide winter bird monitoring program organized and conducted by citizen science volunteers. Each CBC follows a standardized protocol, with a count circle 15 miles in diameter and counting conducted during one 24-hour period during the holiday season. The center of the Two Harbors CBC is actually in Larsmont, and the circle extends up the shore to about Stewart River, down the shore to Stoney Point, and north to the Big Rock/Drummond Line area.

Fall Lake Township report

Before attending to other township business Tuesday night December 6, the Fall Lake Township board addressed an issue presented by Bernie Pruse at the December regular meeting. Pruse asked Lake County to annex vacated Basswood and Elm Streets to his property.

Otto Anvil, a sturdy and patient man, wool shirt buttoned under his chin, found patience no longer a virtue. He was ready for the Great March for Community Newspapers to be on its way back to Lake County since he had just about run out of excuses to tell the townsfolk along Highway 23 in Carlton County who had hosted the throng since late winter last year. He was voted “ambassador of the year” by his peers, yet the award had a bit of a hollow ring to it as thousands of people milled about in the four small towns of Nickerson, Duquette, Kerrick and Bruno and his conscience took a beating. There was no friendlier person than Otto. God quickly noticed Otto’s dilemma and told him the final fire before departure was being prepared by none other than Wind Fire Lady and her good friends Lottie Dodd and her sister Hubadeedoodle Dodd, also known as Doodles.
