Chemical researchers discover catalyst to make renewable paints, coatings and diapers

A team led by University of Minnesota researchers has invented a groundbreaking new catalyst technology that converts renewable materials like trees and corn to the key chemicals, acrylic acid and acrylates used in paints, coatings and superabsorbent polymers. The new catalyst technology is also highly efficient, which means lower costs for manufacturing renewable chemicals.

New AT&T cell tower

AT&T has added a new cell tower in Two Harbors to enhance mobile broadband coverage and give residents and first responders faster, more reliable wireless service. The tower is located near the Little Stewart River will provide coverage when traveling along County Highways 2 and 12 in the area. These enhancements also bring Band 14 spectrum to the area. Band 14 is nationwide, high-quality spectrum set aside by the government specifically for FirstNet. In an emergency, this band – or lane – can be cleared just for FirstNet subscribers. FEBRUARY 11, 2023 100 YEARS AGO: v The 3 spot, purchased to be used as a memorial to the old veterans of the Duluth & Iron Range from a junk dealer, is progressing in the local shops and the engine soon will be turned out in the original shape in which she entered the service for the Duluth & Iron Range 40 years ago. Baldwin Locomotive Works, maker of the engine, has declared its desire to have a part in the undertaking by furnishing the brass plate on which will be inscribed all names of the 30 year veterans eligible on the anniversary of the coming of the engine to Two Harbors 40 years ago.
