A team led by University of Minnesota researchers has invented a groundbreaking new catalyst technology that converts renewable materials like trees and corn to the key chemicals, acrylic acid and acrylates used in paints, coatings and superabsorbent polymers. The new catalyst technology is also highly efficient, which means lower costs for manufacturing renewable chemicals.

Area Christmas bird counts around the region have confirmed an increasingly apparent trend of declining populations of gray jays, recently renamed officially to Canada jays. It’s a trend that researchers in parts of Canada have confirmed as well.

Baldwin Locomotive Works, maker of the engine, has declared its desire to have a part in the undertaking by furnishing the brass plate on which will be inscribed all names of the 30 year veterans eligible on the anniversary of the coming of the engine to Two Harbors 40 years ago.
