‘March Campaign’ Provides Perfect Opportunity to Provide Critical Support to Food Shelves

The March Campaign is an annual campaign of Minnesota FoodShare, which is the largest grassroots food and fund drive throughout Minnesota; it brings together nonprofits, businesses, faith communities, and individuals to help stock and support the capacity of nearly 300 food shelves statewide. The March Campaign began back in 1982 as a way to restock metro food shelves but as the need became more evident, it became a statewide initiative the following year and is now in its 42nd evolution.

Council approves administrator employment agreement

At the Two Harbors City Council Meeting on Monday February 27, after a motion to approve the employment contract for Patty Nordean as city administrator, councilor Derrick Passe requested that the hiring process be paused due to several factors. He said that the process the Council has followed did not meet the procedural requirements set forth in the ad for the position. Because Nordean lacks the minimum educational experience in the job description, the required experience in lieu of education would be at least nine years. Nordean has been City Clerk for less than nine years. Passe also noted that the scoring system was not shared or applied during the discussion between the three final candidates, including the military activity which was intended to add ten points advantage. While there was a point scoring form filled out by councilors, it was not used in the final decision, resulting in a decision that Passe said, “not objective but was subjective.” Further, he commented, Ms. Nordean herself made a statement a year ago that the process would take some time because it was important to hire someone with tenured education and experience.
