Caucuses for the Republican and Democratic parties were held in Lake County last Monday, February 7, in conjunction with precinct caucuses throughout the state. Republican party chair for Lake County Tim Jezierski reported that turn out for the three locations, Silver Bay, Fall Lake, and Two Harbors, saw some of the largest numbers of participants according to their records going back to the early 2000s.

The Two Harbors city council held a regular meeting on Jan. 24, passing a number of agenda items.
A special meeting of the Two Harbors city council was held on February 1 st , just twelve days after another special meeting addressing social media behavior of Mayor Chris Swanson. This meeting was held “to determine whether or not a certain New York Times (NYT) publication dated January 25, 2022 entitled The Rise of the Crypto Mayors should be referred to the Minnesota Attorney General”, according to the agenda.
Twin Metals Minnesota’s plans for a copper-nickel mine near Ely were dealt a devastating blow Wednesday, when the Biden Administration canceled two minerals leases needed for the project. The decision is the latest setback for the company, which has spent more than a decade developing plans for an underground mine, several miles south of Ely, that could bring hundreds of new jobs to the area, yet faced fierce opposition from environmental interests.

Ryan Anderson and his sled dog team took the first-place spot in this year’s Beargrease, clinching a fourth time as champion when he pulled into Grand Portage on Tuesday evening. The third person to take four marathon wins, Anderson finished the race with nine dogs, and added to his wins in 2017, 2015, and 2011.
