Inspiration Station

In 2010 I was the Assistant Director at an art gallery in Little Falls, MN. That was the year I was introduced to the wonderful world of Poetry Slams. Slams are a competitive arts event where poets perform spoken word in front of a live audience and are critiqued by a panel of judges. Formats vary, however, they tend to be loud and lively. I was instantly addicted after my first show. April is National Poetry Month and I will take this opportunity to scratch the surface of the intriguing world of poetry.

VA Disability Benefits I am switching gears this week, as I introduce VA disability benefits. The primary benefit is disability compensation which per the Code of Federal Regulations Title 38 Chapter 1 Part 3 (38 CFR Part 3) is defined as “basic entitlement for a Veteran exists if the Veteran is disabled as the result of a personal injury or disease (including aggravation of a condition existing prior to service) while in active service if the injury or disease was incurred or aggravated in the line of duty”.

Nature Nurtures

The steady snow melt is saturating our parched soils, and soon buds will open revealing a sea of green. Northern gardeners are dreaming of tending to plants in the fresh air and starting seeds indoors to transplant. Many vegetables and flowers can be started indoors, and seed starting can be a simple task. A general rule of thumb is to plan 4-6 weeks of growing indoors before transplanting outdoors. Also consider that our average last frost dates in our hardiness zones 3b-4b are June 5th-11th. Counting back leads us to the middle to end of April before starting many of our annual seeds.
