CUP is Avs to lose… Yesterday was a travel day for the Stanley Cup finalists, the Colorado Avalanche and the Tampa Bay Lightning and tonight; Game three will be played in Tampa Bay. Hopefully, for the Bolts, home ice will bring them the extra energy they will need to dispatch the speedy Avs as they continue toward a possible Stanley Cup three-peat.
The Two Harbors High School After Prom committee would like to thank the following businesses and individuals for their donations to the 2022 THHS After Prom. Along with this list, we also need to thank everyone who donated through our Go Fund Me page. With the donations we were able to provide food, prizes, and activities throughout the entire night. Thank you for contributing to this event so we were able to provide a safe, fun night for the students. We also need to thank the many volunteers that gave their time either before, during or after the event. We would not have been able to have the After Prom without all of you!
It’s here! It’s finally here! Farmer’s Market Season is upon us! Lake County boasts two phenomenal Farmer’s Markets - one in Two Harbors on Saturdays from 10am-1pm and another in Finland on Thursday evenings from 5-6:30pm. Expect to see farmers bring the last of their starter plants these next couple of weeks and transition to fresh greens, radishes, rhubarb, herbs, and many more late spring vegetables. The Finland Farmer’s Market will have a live cooking demo featuring a familiar face and a neat trick to turn all that extra rhubarb growing wild into a delicious and bright salsa. Both markets participate in the Market Bucks and Produce Bucks programs for SNAP/EBT benefits. That means that swiping a $10 charge to your SNAP/EBT card gets you a total of $30 to spend at the markets! Finland Farmer’s Market has a great Power of Produce program sponsored by the UofM combined with the Power of Local program which provides kids and seniors with $4 tokens to spend at the market each week. Get out there and support our local farmers and makers!
The Lake County Press would like to acknowledge a correction to our issue numbers during the month of June. We incorrectly labeled the June 4 and June 11, 2022 issues of volume 1 as issue No. 19. June 4, 2022 was correctly issue No. 19. The June 11, 2022 issue should have been labeled No. 20. The edition on June 18 was incorrectly labeled issue No. 20 and should have been designated issue No. 21. This week’s edition on June 25, 2022 will reflect the correct sequence as issue No. 22. I was getting a little worried because I hadn’t met any Random Strangers last week. I guess I’ve been spending all my time in our own back yard. Today though on my lunch break I met Maureen Nelson and her handsome dog Ollie. Maureen said, “It is a perfect day, we are loving it.” She feels very fortunate to have a place to come up to. They live in the Twin Cities.
I enjoyed visiting my friend, Elsie to learn about her history and what has kept her enjoying her life at 95. Elsie believes in starting her day by eating a good breakfast, and then tells herself that she better straighten up her house because it makes her feel good.

Dear Friends in Christ~ Jacob’s second wife Rachel desperately wanted a baby. She prayed and prayed and miracle of miracles she conceived and she bore a son! When it came time to name this miracle baby she chose the name Joseph which meant “May God add” because, she said, “May the Lord add to me another son!” She had asked and asked and asked for a son, so wouldn’t you expect her to shout out an exuberant thank you? Rather, she said, “God, send me another… the exact same size, make and model…And I have a feeling that there was a tone in her voice which added, “and make it snappy, I’m not getting any younger here.” Doesn’t that seem more than a little ungrateful? And yet, I have to say a word of praise for Rachel’s choice of names.
