Taste OF Lake County

Lemon-Blueberry Coffeecake I found this recipe many years ago in a magazine under the heading “Made from a Mix”. It’s a sure winner with a layer of blueberries on the bottom, moist lemon cake in the middle and crunchy oat streusel on top.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade Goes Full Steam Ahead

Anyone who regularly travels to the Two Harbors Breakwall is aware of the bustle of activity at the wastewater treatment site. Two Harbors is getting a major upgrade in its wastewater treatment plant, according to wastewater superintendent, Luke Heikkila. Biosolids are the treated bi-product of wastewater and are used as fertilizer for local lands. Heikkila said that once they looked at the “big picture,” they determined that with such an old system (structurally built in 1956 and 1972), it made more sense to upgrade everything all at once.

Not everyone is like me enjoying the warm and humid summer days, and if not, we are very fortunate to have one of the world’s largest air conditioners out our back door. People flock to the shores of the majestic Lake Superior, and no one can blame them. It is one of many spaces that should be and remain protected for us and future generations to come.
