Inline racers leaving the gates out of Two Harbors on Scenic 61 at the 26th annual NorthShore Inline Marathon last weekend. Fall is officially upon us, and it is fall bird migration season. In the past few weeks record numbers of birds migrated through our region, picked up on local radars and by bird watchers alike. Each year birds move south from mid August through November and even a few unexpected stragglers have been recorded into December in our northern region. Last year I had the pleasure of following a local bird enthusiast’s encounter with a Rufous Hummingbird that was at her feeder until the early days of December. If you don’t know of Laura Erickson’s For the Birds radio program, her Birding Blog, or her books including 101 Ways to Help Birds, I highly recommend them. She is a wealth of knowledge in the birding community.

Drinks & Desserts, new fundraising event designed to hit all the high notes and sure to become a northshore classic annual event is being put on by Community Partners in Two Harbors. Community Partners, a nonprofit with a mission of helping elders age in place in the Two Harbors area, hatched the event idea out of a “side passion” of executive director Deb Scott. “I love making cheesecakes, for over 25 years it’s been my side passion,” says Scott, whose main passion is clearly helping elders maintain living at home. Scott, who is relatively new to her position with Community Partners, says she has always wanted to do a “cheesecake event” for every organization she’s worked for in her career.
