Today was one of maybe the last days of warmer temps (50s,60s) which makes for good “getting ready for winter” workdays. This afternoon I took a break from the wood splitter and laid on my back in the truck bed and watched the clouds drift by in a beautiful blue sky. Quiet, this little world empty, or almost, of the brilliant display of color we have had this fall. Deep in the heart of the Northwoods the ferns have turned brown and the grasses white with the 20s and one 19-degree night. Wide open, bare branches and the ever-present green of pine and spruce, also emptied of their fall needles that coat the ground in a soft gold carpet. I think on the world in this reverie. The big one and the small one, friends, family, countries, unsettledness, and steadfastness and back to the soft clouds drifting by. What a gift to be able to take a moment. Just at the right place at the right moment. Grateful for this peace that I feel here and holding fast to the wish, prayer, mantra, plea (you pick) that we can all share this together under the all-encompassing blue sky of our lives. And so, back to the warm day of “getting ready” and splitting wood.
