This day, 75 years ago, modern shopping arrived in Two Harbors! On Thursday, February 27th 1947 at 10:00 am Dean Jordan opened the doors of Jordan’s Supermarket at the corner of 5th Avenue and 7th Street. While the first supermarket opened in 1916 by Clarence Saunders, grocery shopping as we know it did not go mainstream until the 1930s.

A Postscript

A reader expressed concern about the article “Health–Discussed all the time–or is it? (Jan 28). Specifically, the author’s suggestion that Vitamin D should be taken to lessen risk of being infected with COVID. The reader, a professional scientist, could not find credible evidence supporting this statement, noting the findings that suggest there is no link and the limitations of many of the studies as well as the fact that current research on COVID can, and has, developed new findings over time.

North Shore Pee Wees Head to Regions

The North Shore Pee Wees played in Silver Bay last Saturday morning against Duluth East. We ended up winning 4-2. It was a strong, hard game. After we won, we advanced to play Cloquet Saturday night who is #1 in our District. We ended up losing, but we were down by three and came back in the 3 rd , and scored two goals within 30 seconds of each other, but we just couldn’t pull it off. Hats off to Cloquet on how well structured they are! They are a very fun, clean and fast team to play with!

Masked Fan Speaks

CASTLE DANGER The Minnesota WILD just completed a head-scratcher of a week going 2-2 in the process. Fans in The State of Hockey are reacting as they usually do in situations like this; the end of the hockey world as we know it is close at hand. I would point out that it’s only mid-winter and that the end of the hockey world for the WILD usually occurs in the 1st round of the playoffs if the team does indeed make it into that grand event. I’m happy to say that even with the fan-predicted impending fire and brimstone that will melt all Minnesota ice statewide sometime in the not-so-distant future the team is still in good shape.

Conservation Officer Tales

Although the Lake County Press knows that the majority of sportsmen and women are law-abiding folks, there are a few that run afoul of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Conservation Officers. Periodically, the DNR provides a report of some of the miscreants the Conservation Officers (CO) have encountered. The Lake County Press shares these stories as a reminder to all to be safe and to follow the rules!

One-Act Success Story for THHS

On the 29th of January, Two Harbors competed against six other schools in our area in a one act play competition. Every school will produce a play that should be under thirty five minutes and perform it for judges. The judges then watch all the plays, critique the plays, and pick two of the plays to move on to compete the next Saturday for a regional competition with one winner advancing to state.
