Small Town, Big Hearts Connect to Help Local
Small town life is personal. Community connections run as deep as the lake beyond our shore. On Saturday, February 26, Two Harbors demonstrated that reality when several hundred local citizens gathered in an outpouring of support for lifelong Two Harbors resident, Darren Davidson, who was diagnosed in December with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
Ollman earns all-conference for Silver Bay
The Silver Bay boys basketball season ended March 7 in the Section 7A playoffs when rival Cook County came to the Bay and stopped the Mariners 67-31. On a good note, Silver Bay senior Manor Ollman earned Polar League small school first team honors and will play in the Polar League all-star game, a game that will be coached by Mariner coach Jeremy Schwarz.

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month: Remembering Kiva Black
Many readers know my friend, Kiva Black, who died last year of colon cancer at 58. It was not until the last few days of his life that he knew he had colon cancer, and though he was prepared to fight hard with any interventions the cancer specialists recommended, he never got that chance.
Silver Bay M-Club to hold annual fundraiser

Runoff Report
As was reported in last week’s Camp Shack News-Gazette-Chronicle-Post-Press-Weekly Standard a plan was hatched to turn the legions in the Great March for Community Newspapers back in the direction of Lake County. The huge encampment had stalled after swallowing the Carlton County towns of Nickerson, Duquette, Kerrick and Bruno but a renewed vigor was found, as well as unintended romances and intrigue, and the challenge to turn in unison and without injury the thousands of good-natured NUFA-induced folks in the massive procession fell to the reluctant editor and Tony Xzcerlippy of Tony’s Underwater Limousine Service.

From the Outside
Sleeping on Ice. From the South Arm of Knife Lake the early light was just appearing in the east when a skim of frost fell from the hood of my sleeping bag and landed on my face, waking me up. My nose was cold, and I could tell it was a chilly morning for March— my minimum thermometer would register an overnight low of -31 F. Tucked in the woods near where the dogs were staked out, my buddy Jethro (a nickname we have used for each other since our college days) was asleep on the dog sled, and it would be another couple of hours before we would emerge into rapidly warming sunlight that helps makes winter camping easier than it is two months earlier.

Dinner in the Snow
