Bike Rodeo encourages physical activity and safety

Lake County Public Health and Aspirus Lake View hosted a Bike Rodeo in Silver Bay on May 6. Around 40 kids and adults came to the event. Bike mechanics Dan Cruikshank & Summer Goebel from SpokenGear and Asa Jacobs from William Kelly Schools provided brake, handlebar and gear adjustments, filled up tires and cleaned & lubed chains. Each kid tested out their tuned-up bike on the skills course.

A mix of luck and prevention, Home saved from Brimson wildfire

Susan Detweiller, former member of the Brimson fire department, knew to take steps to protect her property from wildfire. A program with the Natural Resources Conservation Services allowed for the removal of spruce and balsam to mitigate fire potential from spruce budworm damage. On Detweiller’s property, healthy trees were thinned to at least 10’ apart. That was done in 2019 on 18 acres of property.
