As gardening season begins, University of Minnesota – Extension Lake County Master Gardeners are ready to assist you with your gardening questions, provide educational materials, and present programs for community events or organizations. Master Gardeners are volunteers and spend many hours learning and volunteering in their communities. Most of us are not professional horticulturalists, we are people who enjoy sharing our love of gardening and knowledge we have acquired. We will also find answers to your questions using research-based sources. Our go-to is the UMN-Extension website extension.umn.edu/yard-and-garden. This website is a wealth of research-based information, and I encourage all gardeners to check it out. A great new feature is the Plant Elements of Design Tool that will help match plants to your growing conditions.
Two Harbors Pride Event organizers are looking for volunteers and vendors for their second Pride event taking place on Saturday, July 12. Volunteers meet every Sunday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Two Harbors; text 763.600.9102 for location. Tablers pay no fee, but must apply by Friday, June 27. For an application and more details, please message admin@twoharborspride.org. This activity is made possible in part by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council, thanks to appropriations from Minnesota State Legislature’s General Fund.
Let’s Plant Trees donated seedlings to aid forest recovery in the Brimson area, where severe wildfires scorched thousands of acres, destroyed homes and cabins, and left large tracts of forest damaged or completely wiped out. These seedlings will help begin the long process of regeneration in a community deeply affected by fire.
