Locals get creative to help Ukraine
Dave Nonnemacher has been fundraising to help people in Ukraine since the war in began in early 2022, but even more notable are the innovative projects he has conceived to bring meaningful help to Ukrainians as they struggle against Russian invasion. With ties to Two Harbors’ United Church, Nonnemacher has headed up assembling solar lights and phone chargers. All the proceeds from a pottery sale will be going to Ukraine to buy food for people in need there.Perhaps as crucial will be tourniquets to save lives of those with grave injuries.Working with a number of different churches across the country and New Horizons USA nonprofit, Nonnemacher had a spark of inspiration at Cedareo in Two Harbors where he thought to ask co-owner Dan Cruikshank if tourniquets could be made there.
