Lake Superior Salmon Classic 2024
The annual fundraiser for the William Kelley School’s PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) made a splash with the Lake Superior Salmon Classic last weekend.According to PTO member and event co-organizer Alaina Melander the 23rd annual event was a great success.“It was a really good tournament this year,” said Melander, “with lots of people from out of town and locals coming out.”Melander has been helping with the Salmon Classic since 2017 and is the co-organizer along with Geri Sando. The PTO is an organization of parents and teachers that work together to enhance the experience of students during their education at WKS for both high school and elementary, and Melander says that the annual Salmon Classic has come to be the biggest fundraiser for their group since they took over organizing it in 2010.Money raised goes toward supporting extracurricular activities such as Robotics, French Club and others, along with contributing to improving student experiences with recent contributions like assistance with the elementary gym and Kindergarten room. This year’s Salmon Classic was a full weekend Friday through Sunday afternoon, with planned events in addition to fishing at the Silver Bay Marina with a bag tournament, raffle, food and silent auction.
