Native plantings on city property get attention, dodge being sod over for now

Native plantings, or pollinator gardens were at the top of the agenda at Monday’s Two Harbors city council meeting.Four years ago the city agreed to have native plantings become part of their landscape at a number of city property locations in an effort to create more environmentally friendly greenspace that draws pollinators and birds, without the need for carbon producing lawn mowing.That effort was suddenly facing being removed from city properties and covered over with sod, with a new business item on the agenda.

Embracing the Urban ForestIt was heartening to see a couple of local residents, Paul Iverson and Todd Ronning, recognized by the Two Harbors City Council for their efforts at planting trees around Lighthouse Point and in other public spaces around town.

Candidate debate for 3A Skraba/Droba rescheduled due to severe weather, new date June 28

Last Wednesday, June 12 severe weather warnings loomed for most of northern Minnesota, prompting the Lake County Press to reschedule the candidate forum for District 3A state representative.Opting for caution and safety, the debate will now be held on Friday, June 28 with doors opening at 5:30pm to meet the candidates Roger Skraba and Harley Droba.
