The Stanley Cup Final is underway! In the lead-up to the 2023 NHL Stanley Cup Final there was a lot of dialogue about the break between each team's last game and the start of the Final. The Eastern Champion Florida Panthers had a nine-day break and the Western Champion Vegas Golden Knights were off four days.

The recent “debt crisis” in Congress, where one party put the nation’s credit rating and economy at risk by refusing to raise the federal debt ceiling, and thereby defaulting on debt payments unless major cuts are made to government spending, was self-inflicted.

I mean, after a year and a half that throng of mostly Lake County folks had settled in to the four Carlton County towns of Nickerson, Kerrick, Duquette and Bruno and the locals seem to enjoy the company.

Volunteers needed in Cook and Lake counties for DNR loon survey

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is seeking volunteers to help monitor the loon population in Cook and Lake counties. Volunteers are needed for a minimum of one morning during the June 30 through July 10 monitoring period, to count the number of adult and juvenile loons on pre-selected lakes. For more than 20 years, with the assistance of hundreds of volunteer observers, the DNR has gathered information about common loon numbers on more than 600 lakes distributed among six regions, or 'index areas,” throughout the state.
