100 Years Ago: Berg & Anderson found an outlet this week for a carload of potatoes raised by local growers and though the price was not as high as potatoes should bring, it is considered fair under present conditions. The consignment which went through the Knudson Fruit Company weighed 48,000 pounds and netted the growers about 53 cents per bushel. 50 Years Ago: The newest of the Kampgrounds of America system of family campgrounds is now under construction on Highway 61 northeast of Silver Bay. Kampgrounds of America is the nation’s largest network of privately owned, franchised campgrounds that stretch from coast to coast. Over 400 will be in operation this summer. The North Shore KOA Kampground is expected to open in June. As will all other KOA Kampgrounds, the North Shore KOA will feature free hot showers, attractive camping locations, adequate trailer space, clean restrooms, laundry facilities, groceries, sundries, adequate lighting, recreation areas, level parking, clean grounds, insect and weed control, mail service, and free advance campground reservations. A swimming pool with protective windbreak is also in the plans. All this is offered for as low as $3.50 per night.
