What we want, and what we don’t want by the Two Harbors waterfront The Two Harbors City Council’s recent decision to halt a duplex development at the waterfront highlights our evolution into a community that defines itself not just as consumers whose success is measured by the number and height of buildings within our boundaries, but as citizens capable of discerning what kind of activity is good for people in general, and our people in particular. City Councils and citizens are asking questions that would have been swept under a few decades ago.

Two Harbors track off to a strong start

The Two Harbors Track team travelled to the Cities to ensure a snow-free track for the first outdoor meet of the season on Friday, April 14 in Irondale, Minnesota. Coming a week into the sharply warming temperatures, it was feast or famine. The temperatures were in the 90s at the beginning of the meet but cooled down into the 70s by 6:00 p.m.

Friends of Finland April News

Nancy retires! Nancy Anselment-Olson has been with Friends of Finland for a long time. She started as one of the original board members when the organization was formed back in 2007, and was hired as the Building Manager (which became the Operations Lead position) a few years later, after the Clair Nelson Center was built.

Like many of you, I am always looking for resources to make life easier. I like Disability Hub and the Senior Linkage Line. I also draw on a wide range of websites for information and ideas. Our school days may be behind us, and we may not have been shoved into a locker in years. But we’re never too old to stop learning. And we’re certainly never too old to stop learning what the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) has to offer us.

Capitol Update

When I was elected to represent Northeast Minnesota, I knew we lived in a large house district but I never imagined how truly large it was. It is larger than each of these states: Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont and New Jersey. Most of the land in our area is Federal or State forests, which is a good thing, but there is a lot of land and only about 42,000 people.

Neil McGiverin

Neil McGiverin, 89 of Two Harbors died April 14, 2023. Neil was born December 4,1933 to David & Carrie McGiverin. His father was in the coast guard and his family frequently moved until Neil was in the 7th grade, where the family settled in Grand Marais, MN. After his High School graduation, Neil joined the Marines & was stationed in Korea & Japan where he earned the rank Sargent. Neil met his wife Kay Elizabeth and married on February 23, 1962, and celebrated 61 years of marriage living in Two Harbors having

WKHS Track and Field Recap

On Thursday, April 14 the William Kelley High School track team traveled south to Rosemount High School to compete in a triangular meet with Rosemount and Lakeville South. The Mariners were first invited to compete at Rosemount last year when Nate Bilben and Sophia Blanck competed unattached. Despite the 80 degree weather in Rosemount the Mariners had a good meet. On the girls side Sophomore Sohpia Blanck placed 2nd in the 800 meter run, topping her school record run at State last year by 5 seconds, running a 2:19. Junior Tonja Thomas finished 7th in the 100 (14.11) and 5th in the 200 (28.95). Freshman Valerie Melander finished 4th in the 400 meter dash (70.73). 8th grader Sierra Gaetz ran a strong 800 coming in 4th with a time of 2:37. Freshman Christina Kaiser had a three foot PR in the shot put, placing 7th with a toss of 24'09'.
