PFAS–Don’t stop eating fish, but stay informed
Elevated PFAS in rainbow smelt prompts caution that “forever chemicals” could be creating health risks for those eating some fish. However, not enough is known yet to make definitive rules on fish consumption.

Shipping News
Shipping season is in full swing! Monday morning as the Edwin Gott left Two Harbors, three more ore boats were in sight off shore. The Lake County Press would like to add a schedule for ships coming in to the Silver Bay and Two Harbors ports. However, thus far we have had difficulty finding a source that puts out a 10-day prediction of who is loading where. Please let us know if you have a good source to share!

Fall Lake board reorganizes for 2023
Many reorganizational issues usually addressed at Fall Lake Township annual meetings haven’t been discussed for the past 10 years. New Fall Lake Township clerk, Cheri DeBeltz, learned much in her Minnesota Township Association training and from talking with clerks at other townships.

The reluctant editor was still awaiting word that the Camp Shack Marching Band had made it across the Pigeon River and into Canada. In the meantime, he was really enjoying his brief respite from the Great March for Community Newspapers and was wandering around Lake County in search of out-of-the-way places. He will share another of those places with you now.
Masked Fan Speaks
TAMPA I'm back home, I'm exhausted and my skull, with the lessening 'protective' foliage on top, is sunburned, but what a week! The Frozen Four tourney in Tampa was enjoyable and as always, was a heck of a tournament. The Quinnipiac Bobcats prevailed over the Minnesota Gophers in the National title game in a 3-2 OT thriller. In the National semis on Thursday, the Gophers bested Boston University by a 6-2 final. BU scored first and the first two frames were up and down before the Gophers took the tilt over in the third period for the win. In the evening game, Quinnipiac University faced off against the Michigan Wolverines. I believe most analysis was of the opinion that the title game would be a Big Ten Conference feature. I could envision that, but then again, I told my son, who was at the event with me, that it wouldn't surprise me in the least if the Bobcats won the game and eliminated Michigan from the tourney, and that is what happened. From my view, I didn't think Michigan played their best game, their usual crisp passing and shooting seemed to be off. But then, you can't underestimate how Quinnipiac's play forced that to occur. These teams were knotted at two each before the Cats took over the third period on their way to a 5-2 win and a spot in the Championship game. The title game had an ominous beginning to it just 21 seconds in when the Cat's Skyler Brind'Amour leveled the Gopher's D-man Mike Koster with a vicious headshot. The referees though lacked the courage to eject him from the game as they should have, and the Cat's penalty kill prevailed during the ensuing Gopher power play for two minutes. However, by the time this game was early into the second frame, the Gophers had built a 2-0 lead on goals by John Middlestadt and Jaxon Nelson.
