A presentation on a draft stormwater management plan was shared by Derek Benoy of Bolton & Menk, city engineers for Silver Bay at their city council meeting Monday, March 6. Benoy explained that the purpose of the plan would be to understand how the stormwater system is currently functioning, identify problem areas or flooding and upcoming maintenance needs. Using LIDAR data a regional hydraulic model was developed, with the intention of predicting where current and future needs are. Benoy also commented that predictions are for higher intensity rainfall storms and greater flooding predictions than historically expected.

District 6 - Two Harbors area CO Sean Williams (Ely #1) reports snowmobile activity was very high in the Ely area over the week as trail conditions continue to hold. Angling success for trout was limited with only a few anglers checked having any success. Violations included failure to display current snowmobile registration and angling with no license in possession.

A special election to fill the First District Lake County Board of Commissioners seat has been set for August 8. The seat became vacant upon the death of incumbent First District commissioner Pete Walsh on January 19, 2023. According to the Lake County commissioners office the vacant District 1 seat will be open for those interested in filing for election from May 17 to May 31st at 5:00 pm. Affidavits of Candidacy will be accepted in the Lake County Auditor’s Office, with a filing fee of $50.
