Two Harbors high school students participated in a One Act play competition January 27 with their act “Brian the Comet”. The play is about a teenager who is having a difficult time in life and whose mother is a resident of a space station, providing limited contact. When the teen's father is diagnosed with cancer, she is left to care for him by herself. The teenager, who is attempting to keep up, crumbles under the weight of the pressure and becomes depressed. Navigating her life at the hospital, she meets a boy who suffers from brain aneurysms. After some initial reluctance, the girl begins to connect with the boy, and they end up becoming friends. Due to their shared lack of relationships, absence of attention, and sadness, they grow close and keep each other company. The overarching moral of the play is that relationships are key, especially when forging links with others and having someone to lean on in difficult times. The production of the play was well done. Mr. Freund, the director, expressed his pride in the young actors in the play. It can be difficult to recruit students for One Act, but this year, 20 high school students engaged in the production, of whom 16 were active. The performers rehearsed after school every day and occasionally on Fridays, starting in mid November. Out of the seven other plays, the Two Harbors play,” Brian's Comet”, finished fifth in the competition.
