Robo Dweebs compete at State

Super Bowl Sunday began with nervous energy, lots of tired chatter, and great anticipation. The morning was full of pit set up, final presentation preparations, and the organizing of spaces and thought processes. The opening ceremony was full of information, congratulations, and inspiration. The National Anthem was sung and then it was 3…2…1..LEGO! The THHS Robo Dweebs had a jam packed morning schedule of back to back robot games and presentations. They made their judges laugh with their humor and lessons learned as well as answered the questions of these State level judges quite well. Their robot performed its best during the first two runs and then it had some issues. Midday the Robo Dweebs were informed that they would have TWO callbacks for MN Programming and Creative Project Presentation. The team loaded up on protein during their celebration moments before tackling the preparations for callback judging. Just by being at State this team was in the top 15% of the LEGO Robotics teams of MN but now they were in the top 1% by attaining this callback in each area. This means in their division of 11 teams they were the best and had a chance for a State trophy.

Runoff Report

Tony Xzcerlippy, of Tony’s Underwater Limousine Service, had certainly grown busy during the many months of the encampment of the Great March for Community Newspapers. He had ferried folks to dental and doctors' appointments and laundromats, had supplied many of the camp kitchens with mountains of canned salmon emerging from the voluminous trunk of the Commissioner of Stress Relief ’s 1964 Delta 88. He’d even assisted a local midwife deliver a baby in the backseat of the limo in a snowstorm. He was on call 24-7 and it was getting to be a bit much for the longtime skydiver who’d lost his nerve.

Government Regulations The recent earthquake in Turkey and Syria, which as I write this has a human death toll soaring past 41,000, got me thinking about the rules, regulations and standards required by modern societies— and the costs incurred when governments are too weak, corrupt, or poor to implement and enforce them. Building codes and reasonable zoning regulations that lead to resilient structures save lives and money, and in the case of the recent quake the number of dead would be radically lower, even when considering the quake’s intensity.

Masked Fan Speaks

Here is your big chance! I mean, come on, you have been the 'unofficial' WILD GM for many seasons already haven't you? I review a lot of hockey stats, but I wouldn't say I'm a stats geek. I've seen thousands of practices and games, but I can't say that I'm an official 'scout.' And being from the old school I can't say that I've dove into the world of hockey analytics very deeply, but I do have the material available and intend to dig in. In particular, I'm interested in what some upper-level hockey folks would consider being the three to five most important analytics available to utilize for their impact on hockey decisions.

Cleveland-Cliffs plans to reopen

Senator Grant Hauschild (DFL-Hermantown) said Monday that he had received confirmation from Cleveland-Cliffs that the mining company is beginning to contact miners about reopening their Babbitt and Silver Bay plant in early April. Earlier this year the legislature passed a bill authored by Sen. Hauschild and Rep. Dave Lislegard (DFL-Aurora) which extended unemployment insurance benefits for miners who had been laid off. Hauschild said this bill went a long way to helping those workers, but he stayed focused on the ultimate goal of supporting Cleveland-Cliffs’ efforts to reopen their mining operations.
