Service-Connected Disability Ratings Coming off a threeweek stint describing the CVSO, I might have left out the task of managing expectations. Hearing “I know a Veteran that is 100% for this disability” or “my neighbor did not go to war or overseas but is getting more disability compensation than me” is probably a weekly occurrence.

Lake County Press Celebrates 1st Year

This last year has been quite a ride, from an idea for a new newspaper in Lake County, to tying so many details together to pull it off. Each week flashing by with deadlines zooming close and another paper put to bed for the week. What a privilege and what a steep learning curve for me, where writing for newspapers has been my job for over a decade, but doing what it takes to put a newspaper together was brand new. I feel privileged to be bringing local stories to my neighbors in Lake County, it is a job that I believe can make our north shore communities stronger. I could not do it without the generous mentoring from the editors in International Falls and Grand Marais, and all of the staff and many community contributors.

Congratulations from editors in northeastern Minnesota

“When Two Harbors lost its weekly paper I felt like the North Shore lost a good friend. Through newspapers we keep up with what is going on in our respective communities. We bond over issues. Laugh and cry together in good times and sad times. So, when there was a chance that a paper could be brought back into the community, I was happy to help in anyway that I could. Thanks to the small but hardworking staff at the Lake County Press, Two Harbors and Lake County has a newspaper that it can be proud of. Congratulations on your one-year anniversary! -Brian Larsen, Cook County News-Herald. “The addition of the Lake County Press is a part of the move to ensure that the important role of local journalism not only survives, but thrives in rural Minnesota,” said Laurel Beager, editor of the Rainy Lake Gazette, established in International Falls by CherryRoad Media in 2021 following the shuttering of the previous newspaper there. “We salute the Press, its staff and CherryRoad Media leadership for enriching its community.”
