Inspiration Station

The Magic of Music Vinyl records are making a comeback, which I believe is a wonderful trend. Not only does vinyl equate with amazing vintage tunes, it also is the nostalgia of the cracks and pops I enjoy.

Brimson-Toimi News

On the cusp of this new year 2023, I take in the calm and quiet after two weeks with two storms and all the heavy snow, wild winds and power outages that came with it. A lot of winter before even reaching the end of December! The trees still hold their heavy snow. Brush and small trees are buried under the weight. I have seen many small trees bounce back from being bent over. But I am particularly happy to be watching a young red pine that we planted many years ago, now about 3 inches diameter and over 10 feet tall, each day slowly inching its way upward! I dug it out right away. It was completely buried and so bent over. While nothing ever stays the same, I guess there is hope to be found in every corner of life. It just takes stopping to see, trying one’s best and the precious gift of time. May you find all three and more as you go into this new year.

A Look at the Past

This photograph is from February 11th, 1927 when local Two Harborite Helia Nauha won the title of Duluth Winter Frolic Queen. The Duluth & Iron Range band and Mayor Brinkley assembled at the station to meet Horace Johnson's private rail car Minnesota on which the queen arrived on the 9:30 train. The parade of automobiles, led by the company band, processed up Poplar Avenue (Waterfront Drive) to 7th Avenue, west on 7th Avenue to Cedar Street and back down to the YMCA where a ball in Nauha’s honor was hosted by the Duluth & Iron Range Railroad Recreational Association. Nauha graduated with the Two Harbors class of 1920 and at the time was working as stenographer in the office of Land Commissioner LB Arnold of the Duluth & Iron Range Railroad. It was estimated that over half of the population of Two Harbors showed up to celebrate the achievement.
