The first ski meet of the year for the Nordic Storm team, a joint team of skiers from Two Harbors and Cook County, took place in Mora on Saturday December 17. Conditions were good from the major downfall of snow earlier in the week. According to Head Coach Baylee Johnson, “Mora is new to our section and it was a great new venue to kick off the racing season!” The teams at this meet were different than the normal make-up; most were from central Minnesota including Brainerd, Little Falls. Between illness, late scheduling, and the Big Snowstorm, only a few skiers made it to Mora, and only four raced. It was a “pursuit” race, a series of two races. The first race is a classic (in the “tracks”) race, and every skier starts the second race in the exact time that he or she finished behind the winner from the first race. Thus, Cyrus Myers, whose time in the classic race was 24:36, 3:34 behind the winner, left the starting block 3:34 minutes after the winner. This way everyone starts just behind the person who raced just a bit faster than he/she did, and everyone is pursuing the person just ahead! Myers raced the skate-race in 21:11 and held his own, neither passing nor being passed, in the second race. His final placement was 21st.

Everyone agrees that the waterfront at Two Harbors Agate Bay has enormous potential. What to do with it is a constant debate spanning many years, and how to pay for it another matter. The issue may be gathering momentum as the city looks to a fresh start next year with two new councilors and a new mayor in the spring.

Saturday Dec 17. Two Harbors 75 Howard Lake- Waverly-Winsted 36 The Agates withstood cold shooting in the 1st half while playing some tough defense in taking a 25-17 lead into the break. The 2nd half proved to be a different story as the basket opened up in route to a 50 point 2nd half. Trent Gomez had his 2nd consecutive 31 point game while Cameron Nelson added a double-double with 10 points & 13 rebounds. The guys really wore them down in the 2nd half and again, each game someone new ups their game. Kyler had a couple huge 3’s early on while their focus was on stopping Trent. Ryan Seguin kinda sparked us and I thought the Bark boys brought us some needed energy as well.

Here's my 'Not on Facebook' post. The snow was so heavy and we were getting tired of shoveling so I decided to lighten things up a bit.
