Wreath making is a favorite winter pastime for many. No creation is the same when we are surrounded by varieties of greens, pine cones, dried flowers, herbs and berries. Looking into the history of wreaths was fascinating as there are many civilizations and cultures that symbolize the wreath. In ancient Greece they are thought to represent eternal life, durability and victory, and overtime remained staples in other cultural celebrations. While wreaths are noted throughout pagan history, it is thought that evergreen wreath’s association with Christmas stems from the 16th century European Christian tradition of bringing evergreen trees into the home to celebrate the holiday. The trees were often too large for the spaces in their homes, and they would reuse the trimmings to create wreaths and garlands.
