Great! Lakes Candy Kitchen

Fourth-generation candy maker Andy Matson says that keeping the candy shop in Knife River a popular destination is based on small batches of candy made by hand. Working the store with his mom and aunt, Andy says, “We use all the recipes from my grandfather and my great-grandfather, we are most proud of continuing our family tradition.” Grown out of the original Canelake’s candy store in Virginia, locals are lucky to have Great! Lakes nearby to pick up treats like hard-to-find old-fashioned ribbon candy.
