Outdoor Axe Throwing Arena opens this month at North Shore Adventure Park

SILVER BAY, MN – The North Shore’s first permanent outdoor axe throwing venue opens this month at the North Shore Adventure Park in Silver Bay. Guests can buy tickets to test their skills starting Wednesday August 17. Axe throwing is one of the fastest growing sports in the country with new venues being built every day. This one is unique since it is outdoors, permanent and covered and is the only venue between Duluth and Thunder Bay. The venue accommodates four people per lane and has six lanes, making it the perfect activity for friends, family, or other groups. “The sport is easy to learn and addictive,” says Alice Tibbetts, president of the North Shore Adventure Park. “It is gratifying to just throw the axe; it’s even more fun when guests realize they can hit the bullseye pretty quickly. It also appeals to a wide range of people — from youth to teens to older adults. Playing can be competitive or just for fun.”

So I brought my art pieces to be judged and displayed alongside the creations by my new county neighbors.

New Chief of Police for Silver Bay

At the most recent regular Silver Bay city council meeting the decision was made to promote Officer Cole Ernest to the permanent position of Chief of Police. Ernest had formerly been an officer for the Silver Bay police department and has been acting as interim chief for the last six months. Ernest’s accepting of the Chief position leaves a full-time officer opening that he had previously filled. The council gave city administrator authorization to advertise for the resulting position. At that same council meeting a public hearing was set for September 19 regarding a proposed business subsidy for Sawtooth 16, LLC. In the meantime, the city engineer has stated that some specifications on plans are outstanding but, in the offing, and permitting is expected to move forward by the date set.

Shenandoah concert cancelled

Last week delivered the disappointing news that a concert being presented by Lovin’ Lake County was to be cancelled, adding to an already unsettled week for Two Harbors. Shenandoah was to perform at the “Rockin’ the Docks” event in downtown Two Harbors on August 20 and the last-minute cancellation brought more disruption to town.

A1 ingly quiet; in fact traffic appeared similar to or quieter than usual for the summer, with the exception of more on-street parking on 1st and 2nd avenues. All the local business owners interviewed expressed disappointment that they did not see a greater uptick in customers, perhaps because parking in town was discouraged and the shuttle service kept most people from infiltrating the city streets.
