Knife River Marina Opens! On this date fifty years ago (July 2) nearly $450,000 was awarded to Lake County by the Economic Development Administration and the Upper Great Lakes Regional Commission for construction of additional slips and other improvements at the Knife River Harbor. While Knife River served as the headquarters to the Alger-Smith Logging Railroad from 1898 to 1919, efforts were taken up in the 1940s to improve the harbor for small craft and increase accessibility for tourists.
