Open Letter to Governor and state legislators from RAMS Governor Walz, Leader Miller, Speaker Hortman & Legislators: It’s time to call a Special Session to finish the Legislature’s important work. The Range Association of Municipalities and Schools (RAMS) has been advocating for the communities of the Taconite Assistance Area (TAA) in northern Minnesota for over 80 years.

Katya’s Corner

I like to think I am a level-headed person, but when things really start to swirl, I can start to spin. How to ground ourselves in a time of seeming chaos, confusion, and upheaval? The Lake County Press is a member of the Minnesota Newspaper Association (MNA), a voluntary trade association whose mission statement includes this goal: “To secure improved standards in the practice of the profession of journalism, and to promote a high standard of conduct and professional ethics in the business of newspaper publishing by elevating its tone, purifying its expressions, enlarging its usefulness, advancing its wisdom and justice, and extending its influence in the work of true civilization.” A lofty and worthy goal, in my opinion.

The 2022 NHL Stanley Cup tournament has just concluded with the Colorado Avalanche defeating the history-seeking, three-peat hopeful Tampa Bay Lightning in Game six by a 2-1 final. After losing G5 and a chance to win the Cup at home, the Avs went back to Tampa and got the job done.

Early voting by mail or in person open now until August 9th

The primary election for city councilors, state legislators and several state offices, as well as the recall question pertaining to the mayor of Two Harbors (for residents of Two Harbors only) will be held on Tuesday, August 9. Eligible voters may now vote in person at the county auditor’s office in the Lake County courthouse any weekday between now and August 9 , between the hours of 8am and 4:30pm. Their number is 218-834-8315.
