Marlene Mattson, 88, of Two Harbors, died Monday, May 16, 2022 at Edgewood Assisted Living in Hermantown. Marlene was born June 18, 1933 to Hilmer and Violet (Barthell) Sunde in Knife River and graduated from Clover Valley High School.

Audrey L. Johnson, 84, of Duluth, went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 17, 2022 in hospice care after a short battle with colon and liver cancer, surrounded by family who cherish her.

FDLTCC CELEBRATES NURSING GRADUATES WITH PINNING CEREMONY

CLOQUET, MN — Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College celebrated the Associate Degree Nursing Program Graduating Class of 2022 during a Pinning Ceremony on Tuesday, May 10, 2022. The wonderful ceremony featured speeches from Kasey Enerson, the FDLTCC Nursing Club President, and Elsa Ring, a member of the FDLTCC Nursing Faculty. Andrea Simek, Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences provided the opening address; FDLTCC President, Stephanie Hammitt, offered a President’s Welcome; Chelsea Salzer, from the FDLTCC Nursing Faculty, conducted the Presentation of Pins; and the Cedar Creek Singers provided the opening and traveling songs. The 27 graduates were pinned by family and friends during the ceremony.

Recall Update

According to an email sent out to Two Harbors councilors by interim city administrator Joel Dhein the second petition to Recall Mayor Chris Swanson had 532 signatures verified. Only 498 verified signatures were required to trigger a recall election. The petition submitted by a group called the Resign or Recall Committee was certified as sufficient and will be presented at the next city council meeting on May 23.

Covid-19 Update

Following trends across the world and country that in wave after wave have eventually found their way to northeastern Minnesota, positive Covid-19 cases have risen significantly in recent weeks. This week there were 28 new cases, and 30 new cases last week. That is compared to 8 new cases reported two weeks ago.
