Amy Kloster receives Arrowhead Eagles scholarship

Amy Kloster has been awarded the Arrowhead Eagles 2022 Aviation Scholarship. The scholarship is offered annually by the Arrowhead Eagles Aviation Organization based out of Grand Marais/ Cook County Airport. The 501(c)(3) organization works to enhance aviation opportunities and support the Grand Marais airport (KCKC). Kloster’s application was selected by the Eagles Board of Directors and the scholarship certificate was awarded at their Annual Meeting on May 14, 2022.

Letters TO THE Editor

When it comes to shell companies, cryptocurrency, LLCs, Mr. O, real estate partnerships, income sources, and conflicts of interest, Mayor Chris Swanson is all about privacy. Yet, he is obsessed with obtaining the identity of each Resign or Recall petition signer. It’s almost as though he wants to intimidate us and delay a recall election.

Katya’s Corner

Sea Change Expeditions, our climate-focused sailing program, teaches students to keep Lake Superior clean, cold, and clear. One activity that always inspires me is writing letters to decision-makers. Often, decision-makers need input from us to put a particular decision on the front burner. With their permission, I have quoted some of the letters from 5th and 6th graders who live in Lake County.

The Reluctant Editor

Hear, hear to North Shore high school students Jocelyn Carr, Elizabeth Radke, Naomi Tracy-Hogg and Olya Wright. They recently came before the Lake County Board to discuss the effects of climate change on northern Minnesota and the world, encouraging the commissioners to pass a resolution acknowledging the emergency and take immediate action.

Winners of “Matt’s Mile”

Agate Lamar Gordon, pictured here at right with her special award as winner of the 1600-meter race at the Matt Kero Memorial Track Invitational hosted by Duluth Denfeld High School on May 13. The meet, first held in 2012, is in honor of Matt Kero, a Denfeld graduate and former athlete who passed away after graduating high school. Since 2017 the Kero family has been awarding the winners special medals to winners of the 1600-meter run, dubbing it “Matt’s Mile”. Gordon’s win this year marked the third time Agate’s have winners of “Matt’s Mile”, with Sydney Haugan winning in 2017, and Isaac Swanson in 2019.
