Remembering Sacrifice. I was in the William Kelley High School library some years ago when I noticed a book on the shelves that memorialized the lives of some of the countless young men who had served and been killed in the Vietnam War of the 1960s and 70s.

Two Harbors track and field athletes head to section meet
The Two Harbors boys and girls tracksters did well this past week at the South Section 7A meet held at Esko this past Wednesday. The girls took second and the boys third as they head toward next Thursday’s 7A Section meet at UMD.
Silver Bay competes in conference track meet
The Silver Bay Boys and Girls track and field team took part in last Wednesday’s Polar League Conference Meet in Esko with the boys taking eighth place and the girls tenth. Silver Bay’s Nate Bilben garnered all-conference honors with a win in the 800m run with a time of 2:01.3.
Whirlwind travel for Silver Bay baseball squad
Every team in northern Minnesota puts on the miles during the sports season and this past week the Silver Bay baseball team held up its end of the bargain. The Mariners opened Tuesday at Cloquet against Wrenshall with a 14-4 win over the Wrens and then headed down the highway for an open game against Mille Lacs and earned an exciting 11-8 win in Isle.

Paul Iversen and Todd Ronning doing their annual tree planting on Lighthouse Point in Two Harbors. The tree they are posing with was planted several years ago and was finally big enough to remove the wire cage. The tree-planting super-duo put in about 15 white pine and 10 mountain ash this year.

Bites from the Bays
The 2022 Green Door Smelt Fry was a tremendous success! Over 400 hungry attendees ate 225+ pounds of fried smelt! Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy this event. This couldn’t have been possible without the help of our incredible team of volunteers. A huge thanks to Sherry, Cindy, Leah, Jens, Jeff, Travis, Kaylee, Haley, Debbie, Tim, Chuck, Mike, Henry, Anna, Bob, Donna, Jason, Jesse, Jim, Jimbo, Leif, and a hats off to Clayton for hosting the whole shebang at the Green Door! You can count on the Green Door Smelt Fry to continue in2023 about when the smelt run up the rivers in Late April or Early May. Until then, I hear you can get a mean fish fry at Northwoods Family Grille in Silver Bay or Four Seasons in Finland.
