The Silver Bay girls softball squad moves on to the Section 7A double elimination round with an opening round 10-7 win over Mountain Iron-Buhl in Silver Bay on Tuesday. The Mariners forged ahead without head coach Mike Guzzo who underwent knee surgery Tuesday after he tore his quad tendon after a tumble going down the hill to Lynch Field last Friday.
Naming five individuals who are part of the Resign or Recall Committee, the city clerk and city administrator, a lawsuit was amended in another attempt to stop the recall of Two Harbors mayor Chris Swanson.
The Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency (AEOA) is seeking applicants in the current Small Cities Development Program in Two Harbors. A specific area in Lake County is focused on for each grant cycle, and currently applications are open for a neighborhood in Two Harbors, roughly north of 7th Avenue up to approximately 13th Avenue, and between Highway 2 and the railroad tracks (see map for specific area details).
Isle Royale, the “biggest island on the biggest lake in the world,” has been our backyard as we sailed from anchorage to anchorage this past week. It was early in the season and the ice had just gone out of the bays, so not many humans had yet landed. We eagerly chatted with the few people we found. They were National Park staff, interns and researchers for the wolf/moose study, and a few hardy backpackers.
Somehow the Big Lie continues and now we have restrictive voting laws in many states. Minnesota members of what was once known as the Republican Party, want that to happen here as well, just to provide “a little more trust” in our election system.
Gearing up for Summer The Silver Bay Public Library has a full and engaging calendar for the month of June! This year’s summer reading program, called “Read Beyond the Beaten Path,” begins June 13 and runs for eight weeks until August 5. We have a variety of activity books and incentive prizes tailored for different age categories from ages 0-18.
WILD offseason ahead! With the Minnesota WILD season coming to an immediate conclusion recently, all post-playoff talk about the club centered around some looming personnel decisions hanging above GM Bill Guerin’s head. And rightfully so.
In a multi-day visit by the Minnesota Design Team last week residents of Silver Bay came together to take a deep look at their city, imagine a future vision of the city they want to live in, and talk about what steps they might take to get there.
Hello from Two Harbors High School! Our students have been very busy these past few weeks with sports, academic events, club events, and much more. Last week, THHS Student Council held elections fortheir 2022-23 officers.
I was catching up on some laundry and Cindy asked for some advice on operating the washing machine. She hadn’t been there for about 20 years. So, I asked her if she would allow me to take her picture and include her in the Random Strangers section in the paper. She said that she really likes how nice and clean the laundromat is now and that it’s good to have more new washer and dryers.
